JCCC Dance Team shows up strong at Innovative College Open Championships over the weekend

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College Golden Girls dance team competed in the inaugural Innovative College Open Championships on Sunday, February 25 at Olathe East High School. JCCC was entered to compete in both the jazz and hip-hop divisions against colleges and universities from all levels.

In the jazz division, Johnson County came home with first place, beating out Baker University and Missouri Western State University.  

In the hip-hop division, the Golden Girls were awarded third place behind Missouri State University and Baker. 

Johnson County's jazz routine, choreographed by Kristen Burton, was also the second highest placing routine of the competition with only Kansas State University placing higher. 

The Golden Girls next competition will be the Region 6 Championships on Sunday, March 10 at Newton High School in Newton, Kansas, followed by the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, April 10-13.
