OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College dance team recently competed at the Region VI Dance and Cheer Championships at Newton High School, Sunday, March 10th, competing in Team Performance, Jazz, Pom, and Hip-hop, along with solo divisions. Johnson County came away as the Region VI champion for the ninth consecutive year. 

The JCCC dance team was the only team to compete in all four divisions and brought home first place in all four: Jazz, Pom, Team Performance, and Hip-Hop. Their Jazz routine, choreographed by Kristen Burton, was awarded Grand Champion for being the highest scoring routine in the entire competition.

The team also entered three soloists in the solo division and brought home top three placements out of 13 entries.  Freshman Makenzie Riggs captured first place. Freshman Savannah Bellis placed second and Freshman Vannetta Johnson took home third place.

The team is now preparing to compete at the NDA National Collegiate Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 9-14th.
