JCCC volleyball team improves to 9-1 with a win over KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County volleyball team,  ranked fourth in NJCAA Division II, improved to 9-1 on the season with a 3-1 win over Kansas City Kansas, Tuesday evening.   JCCC won the first, third and fourth sets by the scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-23.  KCKCC won the second set 25-22. 

Five Lady Cavaliers posted double figures in kills.  Freshman Sydney Healy led with 12 kills.  Sophomores Mikayla Powell and Gracie LaForge and Shannon Riley each had 11 kills, and freshman Alyssa Smith finished with 10.  Smith also recorded a season-high 23 digs, giving her the first double-double of her career. 

Sophomore Makenzie Griffell  and freshman Maddie Steiner also were in double figures in digs with 20 and 13 respectively. 

Freshman Ryleigh McBurney and sophomore Kallie Fenscke directed the offense finishing with 28 and 19 assists. 

Johnson County returns the floor Thursday night when they host Hesston at 6 p.m. The Larks are 0-15 on the season, and 0-11 in conference play.
