JCCC volleyball extends win streak to six straight with win at Neosho County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The sixth-ranked Johnson County volleyball team extended their current win streak to six straight matches with a 3-1 win at Neosho County on Saturday afternoon.  JCCC won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-23 and fourth set 25-16 to claim the victory. 

The Lady Cavaliers now stand 17-2 overall on the season, and 14-2 in the conference. JCCC is in first place in the standing ahead of Highland (11-4). Kansas City Kansas and Neosho County are tied for third at 10-6. 

JCCC's hitters had an impressive effort in the win over the Panthers, tallying 59 total kills.  Sophomore Gracie LaForge led the way with 13, followed by sophomore Mikayla Powell with 11, freshman Sydney Healy with 10, sophomores Shannon Riley and Brooke Wroten each had eight and freshman Alyssa Smith added seven.  Wroten also had the top kill percentage of those five at .412. 

The Lady Cavaliers also had three players post double figures in digs. Sophomore Makenzie Griffel registered 20 digs. Smith followed with 18 and freshman Maddie Steiner finished with 15 digs. 

Freshman Ryleigh McBurney and sophomore Kallie Fenscke continued to be solid one-two punch in the running the offense. McBurney tallied 29 assists, followed by Fenscke's 26 total. Both had reached double digits in assist in every match this year. 

Johnson County has just four matches remaining for the regular season, all will be played over the next seven days. They open the week at Allen on Monday, March 22. They hit the road again on Wednesday, March 24 at Coffeyville and a day later host the Red Ravens at 6 p.m. jCCC closes out the season at Cowley on Monday, March 29.
