No. 4 JCCC volleyball closes out season with 3-2 win at Cowley

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 4th-ranked Johnson County volleyball team closed out the 2020-21 regular season with a come-from-behind 3-2 win at Cowley on Monday evening.  

JCCC opened the match with a 25-19 win in the first set, but the Tiger came back to take a 2-1 lead with wins of 25-17 and 25-21.  The Lady Cavaliers evened the match 25-22 in the fourth set, and followed up with a 15-13 win in the final set to secure the victory. JCCC enters postseason play with a record of 21-2. 

Sophomore right-side hitter Mikayla Powell had a big game at the net. She recorded a team-high 16 kills and finished with a kill percentage of .464. 

Sophomore outside hitter Gracie LaForge was also in double figures with 10 kills. She also was above .400 in kill percentage at .444. 

Sophomore outside hitter Shannon Riley and freshman outside hitter Sydney Healy each had nine kills, and sophomore outside hitter Brooke Wroten added eight. 

Sophomore setter Kallie Fenscke registered 33 assists, her second-highest match total of the season. She posted her best match of 40 last week in a win at Allen.  Freshman Rylie McBurney was also in double figures with 18 assists. 

Sophomore Makenzie Griffel, the team's top libero, finished with 23 digs. She has posted double figures for digs in 22 of the 23 matches this year, and has had 20 or more 11 times.

Freshman Alyssa Smith followed with 15 digs, her 13th match in double figures.
