No. 1 vs. No. 2 – JCCC volleyball defeats Cowley in elite showdown

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – In a battle of the top two volleyball teams in country, No. 1-ranked Johnson County remained unbeaten by prevailing in five sets over No. 2-ranked Cowley Friday night at W.S. Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City, Kan. 

The Cavaliers lost the opening set 25-20 but stormed back to take the next two winning 25-19 and 25-16. The Tigers rallied in the fourth set and tied the match at 2-2 with a 25-13 win, but Johnson County sent the Cowley fans home disappointed winning 16-14 while upping their season mark to 26-0.  The Tigers lost for the first time 2022, falling to 20-1. 

Four JCCC hitters finishing in double figures in kills. Sophomore Taylor McCarthy led the way with a season-high 18 kills and a .302 kill percentage. Sophomore Jadyn Troutman followed with 13 kills and sophomore Kylie Gregory and freshman Sarina Ulberg each tallied 10 kills. 

Sophomore libero Addyson Mock produced her best dig total of the season with 31 and sophomore setter Lauren McClure and freshman setter Sydney Fiatte were solid in directing offense finishing with 27 and 21 assists respectively.

Johnson County is on the road with week with a conference match at Hesston on Wednesday, October 5, followed by a trip to Council Bluffs, Iowa for a three-match classic at Iowa Western.
