JCCC Volleyball team closes out regular season with sweep over Highland

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 6-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team put the finishing touches on its 2023 regular season by sweeping Highland Saturday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium. 

The Cavaliers posted set wins of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-13 to improve to 30-3 on the season and 9-1 in conference play.

As a team, JCCC hitters recorded 44 kills and posted a kill percentage of .386.  Sophomore outside/right side hitter Sarina Ulberg and freshman right side hitter Kennedy Smalley led the team with nine kills each. Ulberg also led JCCC with six blocks and Smalley posted an impressive .500 kill percentage along with seven digs. Freshman middle/outside hitter Bella Hedke had six kills and hit .455 and sophomore Sophia Ewy added five kills.

In the back, sophomore libero Emily Silvers tied her second highest match total for digs this season with 25. 

Offensively, sophomore Sydney Fiatte and freshman Wren VanCleave each finished with double digit assists. Fiatte led the way with 24, followed by VanCleave with 16. 

Other key efforts were turned by freshman middle hitter Liana McGonigle (5 blocks, 2 kills), freshman outside hitter Tori Valentine (4 kills, .600 kill %) and freshman libero Olivia Antonowich (5 digs).
