OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County Cavaliers baseball team extended its winning streak to a school record 21 straight games with a pair of wins at Allen Community College yesterday afternoon. It also marked the third straight four-game sweep in conference play this season. The Cavaliers only had two four-game sweeps the entire season last year. 

Johnson County won the first game 12-3, and completed the sweep with an 18-5 blowout.  

In the opener, the Cavaliers plated six runs in the fourth and led 11-0 after six before Allen was able to generate any offense. Freshman right-hander Trey Ziegenbein had the Red Devils guessing for much of the game. He ended up with a complete game victory to improve to 7-0 on the season. He allowed five hits, three runs, one earned with nine strikeouts. 

At the plate, a pair of sophomore middle infielders were the leaders for the Cavaliers. Second baseman Mason Hartman had a single and double and drove in a game-high four runs, and shortstop Chris Esposito ripped two doubles and drove in three runs. 

Sophomore All-American first baseman Malik Williams was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and sophomore outfielder Anthony Amicangelo collected two singles and raised his NJCAA leading batting average two points to .612. 

In the second game, five players produced multiple-RBIs led by freshman outfielder Landen Wood with four runs drive in. He had a single and a double and scored twice. 

Williams, Esposito and freshman outfielder Derek Abeln all were 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs driven in. Williams and Abeln each had two singles and a double, Esposito had two singles and belted a home run. 

Freshman DH Evan Bergman had a single and double, scored twice and drove in two runners, and Hartman had two hits and an RBI. 

Sophomore right-hander Sloan Thomsen improved to 6-0 on the season, pitching six solid innings. He allowed seven hits, four runs and struck out eight batters.  Freshman reliever Jon Moll pitched the final inning and allowed a run off one hit with a strikeout. 

Johnson County now stands 29-2 overall and stand alone in first place in the conference at 12-0. They look to continue their winning streak Tuesday when they host Rockhurt University JV at 4 p.m., followed by a four-game home-and-home series with Fort Scott Community College. The first two games will be at JCCC, Thursday, April 4 with first pitch at 1 p.m., followed by two road games at Fort Scott Saturday, April 6.
