0VERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College baseball team extended its program record win streak to 22 games after pounding out 16 hits, including three home runs, in a 16-9 home victory over Rockhurst University JV yesterday afternoon.  The Cavaliers also stole 10 bases in the game. 

Six players produced multiple hits, including three-hit efforts by sophomore shortstop Chris Esposito and freshman designated hitter Evan Bergman. Esposito was 3-for-5 with a home run, two stolen bases, two runs scored and three driven in. Bergman was 3-for-4 with a double and home run, three runs and three RBIs.  

Freshman centerfielder Derek Abeln drove in three runs with a double and a home run, and sophomore catcher Reid Briney ripped two doubles and drove in two runs. Sophomore second baseman Mason Hartman collected two singles and stole two bases, and freshman right fielder Jaxon Walls also had singles and stole two bases. 

Johnson County used seven pitchers in the game. Freshman right-hander Will Heller, the fifth pitcher of the game, picked up his second victory of the season. He pitched three hitless innings and struck out two. 

The Cavaliers actually trailed 9-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, but battled back with two in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth to take a 10-9 lead. Johnson County tacked five more in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh to close out their scoring. The Hawks scored all nine of their runs in the top of the third inning. 

Johnson County (30-2/12-0) returns to conference play Thursday, April 4 when they host Fort Scott Community College (21-7/10-6) at 1 p.m., for the first game of a four-game series.  They play at Fort Scott on Saturday, April 6.
