OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The ninth-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team took another step toward at least securing a share of the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference title with a 79-65 home victory over Labette Community College, Monday night.

The Cavaliers led 32-29 at the half, and manage to add to that lead in the second half to secure the 14-point win and improve to 24-4 and 7-1 in the conference.

Sophomore guard General Williams knocked down a career-high six 3-pointers and led the Cavaliers with 20 points. He was 6-of-9 from beyond the arch and 2-of-3 at the free throw line.

Sophomore forward Xavier Womack provided 19 bench points for JCCC. He was 6-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-9 at the line. He also had four rebounds.

Head coach Mike Jeffers, who recently notched his 550th career win, also got two big efforts from starting guard Nick Larkin and forward David Turner. Larkin registered his triple-double of the season and just third in team history finishing with 11 points, 12 rebounds 10 assists. Turner Turner posted a double-double finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Labette's Keondre Kennedy led all scorers with 23 points. He was the Cardinal only player to post double digits points.

Johnson County has two games remaining in the regular season, both on the road. They travel to Hesston tonight, and finish at Kansas City Kansas on Saturday afternoon.  Should they prevail in both games, JCCC will be assured at least a share of the 2018-19 conference championship. It would be the fifth title in team history and third in the last four years.
