Strong second-half sparks Cavaliers in 78-56 win over Highland

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore forward Brandon Mann poured in a game-high 22 points and freshman Joey Robinson scored all 12 of his points in the second half to help power the No. 11-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team to a 78-56 conference victory over Highland Saturday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium.

Clinging to a four-point lead through 20 minutes, the Cavaliers dominated the second half to pull away with a 22-point victory. JCCC shot 56 percent from the field while holding the Scotties to just 38 percent.

Mann connected on 9-of-15 shots and was 4-of-6 at the free throw line helping him top 20+ points for fourth time this season.

Robinson hit 5-of-9 shot including a pair of 3-point baskets all in the second. He also had a team-high seven rebounds and seven assists.

Sophomore forward Traeger Rader provided nine points and five boards off the bench, and freshman guard Gavin Harvey contributed eight points and six assists and sophomore guard Steven Samuels finished with eight points and six rebounds. 

Highland was led by Rashad Kee with 22 points followed by Tavian Tate with 14. 

With the victory JCCC moved into sole possession of first place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Division-II standings. 

The Cavaliers (15-3, 3-0) will travel to Iola, Kan., on Wednesday, January 22 to take on the Red Devils of Allen Community College (7-9. 1-1). They return home Saturday, January 25 to host Labette Community College at 4 p.m.
