Cavaliers advance to Region 6 semifinals with 78-51 win over Labette

OVERLNAD PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team advanced to the semifinal round of the NJCAA Region 6 Tournament Monday night with a 78-51 victory over Labette at JCCC Gymnasium.

The Cavaliers jumped on the Cardinals early, building a 21-point lead after 20 minutes, 42-21.  Johnson County shot 50 percent from the field while holding Labette to 21 percent. JCCC also won the battle of the boards 24-to-10.

Four Johnson County players finished I double figures scoring led by freshman forward Tavian Cruse with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to post his team-leading 13 double-double of the season.

Freshman guard Joey Robinson and sophomore forward Brandon Mann each followed with 13 points. Both also flirted with both a double-double and possible triple-double. Robinson also recorded eight rebounds and seven assists, and Mann finished with eight boards and six assists.

Sophomore forward Traeger Rader led JCCC's bench with 10 points and six boards and freshman guard Gavin Harvey contributed nine points and four rebounds.

Labette was led by Demarco Davis with 11 pints and Nathaniel Casher with 10. With the loss the Cardinals finish the season with a record of 8-23.

Johnson County (28-3) will host Allen (13-15) in the first semifinal match up at 3 p.m., on Friday, March 7. Kansas City Kansas (23-8) and Highland (19-12) hook up in the other semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. The winners will play for the championship on Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m. at JCCC Gymnasium.
