OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County freshman guard JaQuaylan Mays made two 3-point baskets in the Cavaliers 60-59 win at Hesston College last night, but none may have been bigger than his second. With one minute, 18-seconds Mays nailed a trey from the wing to give his team a one-point lead, and then the Cavaliers followed with back-to-back defensive stops secure their 25th win of the season and remain in the hunt for a conference championship.

Mays ended up finishing with 10 points on the night, along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Four other starters finished in double figures led by sophomore guard Nick Larkin. Coming off his second triple-double of the season, Larkin posted a double-double against the Larks with 13 points and 14 rebounds, both which led the Cavaliers. He also had two assists and two steals.

Sophomore forwards Xavier Womack and David Turner followed with 12 and 11 points respectively. Both were solid on the glass as well. Womack had six rebounds and Turner was credited with nine caroms.

With the victory the ninth-ranked Cavaliers improve to 25-4 overall and remain in a tie with Highland for first place in the conference at 8-1. Johnson County closes out its regular season at Kansas City Kansas Community College (14-15 / 4-5) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. A win assures JCCC at least a share of the title.
