OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – No. 2 seed Johnson County Community College rolled to a 96-69 victory over Pitt Community College in the first round of the NJCAA Division II Men's National Tournament Tuesday in Danville, Ill. 

The Cavaliers shot 75 percent from 3-point range, hitting 9-of-12 attempts, to take a 50-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. Overall JCCC shot a very respectable 60.7 percent (34-of-56) in the contest and they were also 12-of-21 from 3-point range. 

Guard General Williams had a career and record-setting day for Johnson County. The sophomore from Summit Christian Academy poured in a career high 30 points, with 20 coming in the in the first half.  He was 10-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and 6-of-7 at the free throw line.  

His 30 points set a new team record for a game in national tournament play, breaking the previous best effort of 26 points held by Kevin Fouse against Burlington in the 1976 national tournament. His 10 field goals are the fourth most, and this four treys tie for fourth in a game in team history.

"General Williams stepped up today,'' JCCC head coach Mike Jeffers said. "He is a player that might get you six or he might get you 30.  He had 20 at halftime and I thought that was a quiet 20, but he showed up big today.''

Sophomore David Turner had double-double of 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. He was 6-of-10 shooting with a 3-pointer, and 5-of-6 at the line. Freshman guard JaQuaylon Mays added 13 points and a team-high five assists, and sophomore guard Nick Larkin added 10- points.  Freshman forward Lukas Milner added six points and five boards off the bench.Johnson County is now 29-4 on the season and their 29 wins are just one shy of the record 30 set by the 2001 national championships team.

JCCC will play No. 10 seed Lakeland Community College (Ohio) at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The Lakers upset No. 7 seed Dakota County Tech 94-73 to earn their spot in the quarterfinals.
