OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The second ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team got its 2019-20 season off to a roaring start with a 115-56 blowout over Ottawa University JV on Friday night, Nov. 1. 

Sophomore reserve guard Nic Slavin came in off the bench to pour in a career high 17 points to lead all Cavaliers in scoring. Slavin hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and was 6-of-8 overall. He also was 1-of-1 at the free throw line. 

Four of JCCC's five starters also finished in double digits scoring. Sophomore center Lukas Milnerr posted a career high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting with a free throw. He also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots.

Sophomore guard Kylan Thomas followed with 13 points. He was 5-of-10 from the field with a 3-pointer, and 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also had five rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore guard JaQuaylon Mays and Macaleb Hughes finished with 12 and 11 points respectively. Mays was 5-of-10 with two 3-pointers, seven rebounds and four assists.  Hughes was also 5-of-10 shooting and had nine rebounds and two steals. 

Other key efforts were turned by freshman guard Dale Talley III (9 points, 7 rebounds), freshman guard Braijion Barnes (9 points, 6 rebounds), freshman guard Caleb Isralite (8 points, 5 rebounds), sophomore forward Isiah Sears (7 points, 8 rebounds) and freshman forward Skylar Rhoades (8 points). 

Overall, the Cavaliers shot 57 percent from the floor while holding Ottawa to just 31 percent. Johnson County also outrebounded the Braves 59-to-25. 

The Cavaliers travel to Beatrice, Neb., Tuesday, Nov. 5 to take on Southeast Community College in a NJCAA D-II tilt. They return home on Thursday, Nov. 7 to host Central Methodist Univeristy JV. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
