Mays tallies game-high 15 in his return from an injury

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 16-ranked Johnson County Cavaliers welcomed back JaQuaylon Mays after missing two games with injured shoulder, and the sophomore guard from Lincoln, Neb., delivered with a game-high 15 points in 59-51 win at Labette Saturday afternoon.

Mays was 5-of-11 from the field and 5-of-9 at the free throw line. The Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference leader in steals, added five more to his total in the victory. He also hauled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists.

Sophomore guard Macaleb Hughes also finished in double figures scoring, and nearly posted a double-double finishing with 13 points and eight boards.

Freshman Dale Talley III and sophomore Kylan Thomas each added nine points for the Cavaliers.

With the win Johnson County still remains in the hunt for both a share of the conference title and a first-round bye in the Region VI D-II playoffs.  With two games remaining in the regular season, the Cavaliers stand 5-3 and alone in second place behind Kansas City Kansas (7-1).  JCCC would need victories over Hesston on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and KCKCC on Saturday, Feb. 22, and hope to get some help from Highland, who hosts the Blue Devils on the 19th
