No. 6 Cavaliers open conference play with 73-65 win over KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 6-ranked Johnson County men's basketball (9-1) opened up conference play Saturday afternoon with a 73-65 victory over cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas, 73-65, and extended their winning streak to nine straight game. 

Four of the Cavaliers' five starter finished in double figures scoring, led by freshman point guard Desi Williams, who poured in a season-high 22 points. He was 8-of-13 from the field with two 3-pointers, and was perfect at the free throw line, hitting all four of his attempts. He also had three rebounds and three attempts. 

Sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead followed his sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds. He also had a season-high six blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Jaycson Bereal nearly had a double-double, finishing 11 points and nine boards, and sophomore forward Jacob Coleman added 10 points and five rebounds. 

Freshman forward Xavier Kahube contributed eight points and a season-high 12 rebounds off the bench. 

The Cavaliers are in action three times this week beginning Monday with non-conference game at home against Southeast Community College. They follow with two road conference games at Fort Scott on Wednesday, March 3rd, and at Hesston on Saturday, March 6th.
