Cavaliers fall out of first with 63-59 loss at Highland

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The eighth-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team dropped out of first-place in the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference standings after falling 63-59 at Highland on Saturday afternoon. 

The Cavaliers dropped to 5-2 in the conference and 14-3 overall. Their .714 winning percentage is now behind Kansas City Kansas who improved to .750 (3-1) percentage with a 73-70 win over Labette. Johnson County can still win the conference title outright, but the will need to defeat Labette on the road Wednesday night, and need Fort Scott to defeat KCKCC. 

Sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead had a solid effort, registering his 11 double-double of the season. He finished with 11 points on 5-11 from the floor, and had 10 rebounds. He is averaging 14.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game for the season. 

Sophomore guard Jacob Coleman led the Cavaliers with 12 points, but he struggled from the 3-point range, hitting just 2-of-11 attempts. As a team Johnson County was just 7-for-26 for 26.9 percent. 

Freshman forward Xavier Kahube provided 10 points of the bench, hitting 5-of-6 shots. 

Sophomore guard Jaycson Bereal, a three-time conference player of the week, finished with six points and eight boards. 

Marquise Milton led Highland with 21 points, going 8-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Dillon Delatte followed with a double-double of 11 points and 13 boards.
