Cavaliers season ends with 90-81 loss to Southeast in consolation bracket

DANVILLE, Ill. – Southeast Community College shot 64 percent in the second half to roar back from eight down at halftime for a 90-81 victory over Johnson County, ending the Cavaliers season.

Johnson County led 43-35 at halftime, buy the Storm opened up the second half on a 27-to-4 run and eventually built their lead to 22 points with 6:10 to play. They shot 53 percent for the game and hit 52 percent beyond the arch, hitting 16-of-31. 

All Southeast's starters finished in double figures, led by guard Will McCoy with 25 points. He was 9-of-16 shooting, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range.  

Sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead was the Cavaliers top scorer with 23 points on 11-of-19 shooting. He also had a team-high eight rebounds.

Freshman guard Desi Williams contributed 16 points, four rebounds. Three assists and three steals, and sophomore Jaycson Bereal added 15 points and six boards. 

Freshman forward Jacob Coleman contributed nine points off the bench, and sophomore guard Bing Haung added eight points. 

Johnson County shot 46 percent from the floor, but hit just 8-of-27 shots from the 3-point line for 29 percent.

 

The Cavaliers finish their first season under head coach Rand Chappell with a mark of 16-6.
