OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Facing its first challenge of the season, the No. 10-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team controlled the second half to down No. 14 Iowa Lakes 76-66 Friday at JCCC Gymnasium. The victory keeps the Cavaliers record perfect at 4-0.
The Cavaliers got off to a solid start, building an 11-point lead with just over eight minutes to play in the first half, but the Lakers outscored JCCC 19-to-6 the final eight minutes to pull even at 33-33 at the break.
Freshman guard Tymer Jackson led the way with a season-high 25 points. He also tallied five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
All-American forward Jaland Whitehead posted his third double-double of the season, and his 20th of his career finishing with 12 point and 14 rebounds.
2020-21 KJCCC D-II Freshman of the Year Desi Williams added 14 points and forward Xavier Kahube posted 11 points.
Johnson County has a quick turnaround, hosting Southwestern Community College at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.
