Cavaliers enter winter break 15-0 after 80-76 win at Southeast

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Led by sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead's double-double the Johnson County men's basketball team claimed an 80-76 victory over Southeast in Beatrice, Neb., Saturday afternoon. 

With the victory the Cavaliers improved to 15-0 on the season are off the best start of a season in program history. The previous best start was 12-0 which occurred three times. 

Whitehead led the Cavaliers with 19 points and 13 rebounds. It is 10th time this season to post a double-double and it his 23rd of his JCCC career, which moves him into a tie for second all-time and just one shy of the career mark of 24 set by Ralph Setter from 1978-80.  Whitehead currently leads the NJCAA in total rebounds with 169, and his 11.3 average is third best. He averages 13.0 points per game through the first 15 games. 

Three other players finished in double figures for the Cavaliers. Guard Desi Williams finished with 16 followed by guards Seth Chargois with 15 and Bing Huang with 14. Chargois led JCCC with four assists and Huang grabbed seven rebounds.

Xavier Kahube and Savonni Love also turned in key efforts. Kahube finished with nine points and five rebounds. Love was second on the team with 10 boards and chipped in six points.

Johnson County did not have leading scorer Tymer Jackson for the second straight game. The freshman from Olathe North ranks sixth in the NJCAA in total points with 241, and his 30 steals are ninth nationally. He is averaging 18.5 points and leads the team with 12 games with 10 or more points scored.
