After a long layoff, JCCC returns to the floor with an 88-61 win at Fort Scott

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County men's basketball team hit the hardwood for th first time in 37 days, and the No. 3-ranked Cavaliers showed no ill-effect from the long layoff, as they improved to 16-0 with an 88-61 win at Fort Scott Monday night. 

Johnson County built an 11-point lead going into the break, then blew game open outscoring the Greyhounds by 16 in the second half, 40-24. 

Five Johnson County players finished in double figures led by guard Desi Williams' 23 points off the bench. Williams hit 9-of-15 shots including a 3-pointer and was 4-of-5 at the free throw. 

All-American forward Jaland Whitehead followed with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, good for his 11 double-double of the season. 

Guard Bing Haung and Seth Chargois each finished with 13 points. Haung also pulled down a career high nine boards and dished out four assists. Chargois was credited with two assists and two seasons.

Tymer Jackson, who is the team's leading scorer this year at 18.5 per game, finished with 12. He also led the team with three steals along with three assists.

Peter Simon led the Greyhounds with 23 points, followed by Travis Bullock with 12.

Johnson County will quickly turnaround with a road game at Labette on Wednesday night, January 19 and then return home to host Hesston on Saturday afternoon, January 22. Opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
