JCCC punches ticket to region final

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County was held to its lowest point total of the season along with their worst shooting effort of the season, but still managed to pull out a 44-42 victory over cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas in the Region 6 semifinal at JCCC Gymnasium. 

Johnson County (27-3) will now take on conference champion Allen (26-5) on Saturday, March 5 at the Tony's Pizza Event Center in Salina, Kan. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game can be heard on 1660 The Bet on the Audacy App or seen on the KJCCC Sports Network.

Freshman guard Desi Williams was held to just four points, but his two free throws with 13 seconds remaining gave the Cavaliers a two-point lead. The Cavaliers would hold on for two-point victory. 

JCCC's leading scorer this season, freshman guard Tymer Jackson, reached his average with 18 points to pace the Cavaliers. He was the team's only player to finish in double figures. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. 

Sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead was dominant on the glass and defensive end of the floor finishing with his second-best rebound effort of the season with 17, along with four blocked shots. He also was the team's second leading scorer with eight points. 

Savonni Love came in off the bench to add seven points and Bing Huang finished with four points and six boards.

Joshua Butler was the Blue Devil to reach double figures, finishing with 11.
