JCCC men’s basketball ranked 12th in NJCAA Preseason Poll

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's basketball team will open the 2022-23 campaign as the No. 12 team in the country. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its Division II preseason poll this week. 

Under the direction head coach Rand Chappel, the Cavaliers have appeared in the NJCAA Preseason Poll in each of his first three seasons, and have been ranked in 28 straight polls. Chappell has compiled a 44-10 record, won a KJCCC D-II title, a Region 6/Plains District title and qualified for the NJCAA D-II National Tournament 

Johnson County is one of three Kansas Region VI programs to earn a preseason ranking. Defending conference and region champion Allen Community College earned the No. 4 ranking and Kansas City Kansas Community College received votes.  South Suburban  College is the preseason No. 1 team'

This year's team consists of five returnees, including All-American guard Tymer Jackson, five transfers and five freshmen.

The Cavaliers open their season at home Saturday, November 5 against Saint Mary University JV. Opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
