JCCC men’s basketball opens 2022-23 season with impressive 89-57 win over Saint Mary JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team opened its 2022-23 regular season with an impressive home-court victory over Saint Mary University JV on Saturday afternoon. 

With the game tied at 21-21 with just under four minutes remaining in the first half, the Cavaliers closed out the half on a 1-0 run then put the game out of reach in the second half outscoring the Spires 58-36 for an 89-57 victory. 

Returning All-America guard Tymer Jackson led all scorers with 25 points. He hit 8-of-17 shots with one 3-pointer, and was 8-of-9 at the free throw line. Jackson also grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals.

Sophomore forward Xavier Kahube followed with 18 points and six boards, and sophomore guard Seth Chargois registered his second career double-double finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman guard Trayvon Foster was the Cavaliers top player off the bench. He hit 4-of-7 shots with a 3-pointer for nine points. 

Jason Belcher was the only Saint Mary player to post double figures scoring with 17 points. He also grabbed 10 boards to the Spires. 

Johnson County will hit the court again on Tuesday night when they host Bethany College JV. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
