Men’s basketball improves to 2-0 with blowout over Bethany JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 9-ranked Johnson County men's basketball improved to 2-0 on this young season with a 127-50 blowout of Bethany JV on Tuesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. 

All 12 players who entered the game scored for the Cavaliers with seven finishing in double figures. Johnson County made 54 percent of their shots while holding the Swedes to 31 percent.  JCCC dominated the glass outrebounding Bethany 66-to-18. 

Freshman reserved guard Massi Malterer (Madison East/Madison, Wis) led all players with 18 points. He was 8-for-12 shooting with a 3-point basket and a free throw.  He also had five rebounds and two assists. 

Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon (Little Rock Parkview/Little Rock, Ark.) flirted with a triple-double finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds and eight steals. Gordon made six of his seven shot attempts and was 4-for-4 at the line. His eight steals tie the fourth-best game in team history. 

Sophomore guard Seth Chargois (Union/Tulsa, Okla.) hit 6-fo-9 shots with two treys for 14 points. Sophomore guard Kaleim Taylor (Milwaukee Academy of Science/Milwaukee, Wis.) knocked three bombs and was 5-of-6 overall for 13 points. Sophomore center Tayt Harbour (Bishop Miege/Shawnee, Kan.) was 6-of-7 shooting for 12 points, and nearly had a double-double finishing with nine boards. Sophomore All-American guard Tymer Jackson (Olathe North/Olathe, Kan.) added 11 points and sophomore forward Xavier Kahube (Fort Osage/Independence, Mo.) posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Other key efforts came by freshman guard Trayvon Foster (Washington/Kansas City, Kan.) with nine points and five steals: freshman forward Kyler Mann (Owasso/Tulsa, Okla.) with eight points and six rebounds and sophomore forward Peyton Downey (Grandview Christian/Shawnee, Kan.) with seven points and nine boards. 

Joseph Jordan was the top scorer for the Swedes with 11 points. 

The Cavalies will host back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against Iowa Lakes and Southwestern. Opening tips are scheduled for 7 p.m., and 6 p.m.
