Big first half powers men’s basketball to a 102-63 win over Link Year Prep

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County men's basketball team poured in a season-high 66 points in the first half propelling the Cavaliers to a 102-63 home victory over Link Year Prep on Wednesday night. They also had a season-high 20 steals in the game. 

The Cavaliers opened the game on a 10-0 run and led 31-10 just nine minutes after the opening tip. JCCC shot 77 percent from the field in the half and 58 percent for the game. 

Fresh off earning the week 4 KJCCC D-II Player of the Week honor, sophomore guard Tymer Jackson powered the Cavaliers offensive explosion scoring 20 of his game-high 22 points in the opening half. He hit 7-of-8 shots, with two 3-pointers, and was 4-of-4 at the line. He also had four assists and three steals in the half. 

Sophomore forward Xavier Kahube also had a big half, hitting 6-of-8 shots for 12 points. 

Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon hit 5-of-6 shots for 10 points in the game, eight coming in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half belonged to the reserves for JCCC.  Sophomore Jeremiah Jones, sophomore center Tayt Harbour and freshman guard Trayvon Foster all finished in double figures.  Jones contributed 14 points and led the team with seven rebounds. Harbour recorded 11 points while hitting 5-of-6 shots and Foster added 10 points. 

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Seth Chargois (8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks), freshman guard Massi Malterer (8 points) and freshman forward Kyler Mann (5 points, 4 steals).

Johnson County returns to the hardwood on Saturday, December 3 when they host Kansas Wesleyan University JV. Opening top is scheduled for 2 p.m.
