Cavaliers pull away in second half for 94-79 win at Hesston

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County men's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away for a 94-79 Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II road win at Hesston Wednesday night. 

Johnson County (15-5/3-1) shot 53 percent from the field and 83 percent at the free throw line in the second half to go from just two up at halftime for a 15-point victory over the Larks. JCCC hit 15-of-18 free throws in the half, while Hesston only went to the line five times, making just two baskets. 

Four Cavaliers, all starters, finished in double figures led by All-American guard Tymer Jackson with 25 points. He was 8-of-11 shooting with three 3-pointers, and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe. Jackson also had eight rebounds and three assists. 

Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon followed with 20 points going 5-for-8 from the field and 12-for-14 the line. He also contributed six boards and three steals. 

Sophomore forward Xavier Kahube hit 8-of-13 shots and two free throws to go along with eight rebounds and two assists, and freshman guard Josh Jackson had his best effort of his collegiate career pouring in 10 points with eight assists and six rebounds.  Jackson hit 4-for-5 shots with two 3-pointers. His eight assists are the most by any JCCC player this season.

Johnson County will continue conference play when they welcome Highland (10-9/1-3) to JCCC Gymnasium on Saturday, January 28 for a 4 p.m. tip.
