Johnson County handles Highland 79-52 for 21st victory

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore guard Tymer Jackson moved into the 12th spot on Johnson County's all-time scoring list with 1,033 points, pouring a game-high 20 points to power the Cavaliers to a 79-52 victory at Highland Wednesday night. 

Johnson County improved to 21-7 on the season and remain one game back of Allen in the conference standing at 9-3 with two games remaining, at home against Neosho County February 25 and at Allen on Wednesday, March 1.

 Jackson, the conference scoring leader, converted 8-of-15 shots, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, to give him back-to-back seasons with 500-plus points and 50-plus made 3-point baskets. 

Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon and sophomore guard Desi Williams followed with 14 and 13 points respectively. Gordon made 5-of-9 shots and was 4-of-6 at the free throw line. He also was the top rebounder with eight caroms.  Williams also was 5-of-9 shooting with two treys and a free throw. 

Sophomore guard Seth Chargois was the top player off the bench pouring in 10 points, and freshman guard Kaleim Taylor added seven points and five boards.

Johnson County took a 12-point lead into the locker room at the half, then dominated the second 20 minutes to post the 27-point victory. The Cavaliers made 6-of-13 3-point baskets in the second half, while Highland went 0-for-12 and shot just 25 percent from the field in the half.
