JCCC men’s basketball dominates Allen 80-56 to punch ticket to national tournament

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – On an afternoon when Johnson County's top two scorers Tymer Jackson and Ryan Gordon were held to just four and three points respectively – their lowest scoring outputs of the season, the Cavaliers (26-7) cruised to a 80-56 victory over Allen (23-10) to win the Region VI/Plains District Tournament and punch their ticket to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament March 21-25 at Mary Miller Center in Danville, Ill. 

Stepping up for the Cavaliers were three-year veterans Desi Williams, Xavier Kahube and Seth Chargois. Williams poured in a season-high 25 points along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. He hit 6-of-10 shots with a 3-poitner and was 12-of-16 at the free throw line.

Kahube came in off the bench and contributed 19 points and eight boards. He was 8-of-10 from the field and hit all three free throw attempts. Chargois added eight points and hit two beyond the arc. 

Kyler Mann also had a key performance for the Cavaliers while flirting with a double-double. He finished with eight points and nine rebounds. He also had five assists, three blocks and two steals.   

Allen was led by Chris Dixon with 21 points.  The Red Devils' bench only accounted for 13 points, compared to 34 by the Cavaliers. JCCC also made 22-of-27 free throws, while Allen only had 12 attempts and nine makes. 

The NJCAA will announce the pairings for the tournament on Tuesday afternoon, March 14.

This is JCCC's second appearance in three years under head coach Rand Chappell and the ninth overall for the program.
