JCCC men’s basketball moves up to No. 2 in NJCAA D-II Poll

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the second consecutive week the Johnson County men's basketball team made a move up in the weekly NJCAA Division II Poll. A week ago, they moved from their preseason spot of No. 11 to No. 4. This week the Cavaliers took over the No. 2 spot in the poll and received two first place votes by the poll committee. 

This marks the sixth time the team has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the four-year reign of head coach Rand Chappell. His teams have appeared in 36 of 47 polls (77%). They have been a top-10 ranked team in 26 of 47 polls (55%) and a top-five in 16 of 47 (34%).

This season, the Cavaliers are off to an 8-0 start. They are averaging 90.3 points per game while only allowing 61.3. The team is also making 50.3 percent of their field goal attempts.

Four players are averaging double figures, led by sophomore guard Massi Malterer at 15.9 per game. Sophomore forward Kyler Mann is second at 14.3. He also the team's leading rebounder at 9.6 per game.

Also averaging double digit in points are freshmen forwards Donald Bangham, Jr. (13.6) and Brandon Mann (11.4).

The Cavaliers will look to improve to 9-0 on the season tonight when they home the University of Saint Mary junior varsity squad. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
