JCCC opens 2024 with 10-point home win over Link Year Prep

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 10-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team built a 10 point advantage in the first half, then maintained that lead throughout the second half to post a 87-77 victory over Link Year Prep on Thursday night at JCCC Gymnasium. With the victory the Cavaliers improve to 12-2 on the season.

Four JCCC players finished in double figures scoring led by sophomore forward Kyler Mann with 24 points. He hit 5-of-6 shots and was 13-for-17 at the line, five coming in the final 40 seconds to ice the game away. He also was credited with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard Massi Malterer followed with 19 points, hitting 6-of-15 shots and 6-of-7 free throws. 

Freshman forward Brandon Mann finished with 14 points and team high nine board and sophomore forward Elijah Cole tallied 11 points and five rebounds.

Freshman forward Traeger Rader pulled down seven rebounds to along with five points. 

The Lions Andrew Wright led all scorers with 26 points.

Johnson County travels to Beatrice, Nebraska on Sunday, January 7 to face Southeast Community College. The Cavaliers handed the Bobcats a lopsided 96-55 loss in their previous meeting on November 14. JCCC then returns home to host Kansas Wesleyan JV in the final non-conference match on Tuesday, January 9. The tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
