JCCC men’s basketball rallies in second half to defeat Fort Scott 70-58

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –  The No. 15-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team earned its first conference victory at home this season Wednesday night, rallying to defeat Fort Scott 70-58.

Down by nine points with just over 11 minutes to play, the Cavaliers outscored the Greyhounds 31-to-10 the rest of the game to up their season mark to 17-3 and improve to 3-1 in the conference. 

Johnson County made 20-of-23 free throws in the second half and shot 56 percent from the floor while holding Fort Scott to just 27 percent shooting.

Sophomore forward Kyler Mann led three JCCC players in double figures scoring with 18 points. He hit 5-ofo-7 shot and was 8-of-11 at the charity stripe. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with five steals and three assists. 

Sophomore forward Donald Bangham, Jr., and sophomore guard Massi Malterer each poured in 15 points. Bangham, Jr., scored 13 of 15 points in the second half making 3-of-4 shots with a 3-pointer and all six free throw attempts. He also had four rebounds.

Malterer was just as efficient going 5-of-8 shooting with a trey and 4-of-4 at the line.  He joined Mann by dishing out three assists as well. 

Freshman forward Brandon Mann hit all five of his free throw tries and finished with seven points, and sophomore guard Jordan Nichols and sophomore forward Elijah Cole each contributed five points.

Fort Scott's Andre Norris led all scorers with 24 points.

Johnson County travels to Parsons, Kansas on Saturday, January 27, to take on Labette Community College, then return home to host Hesston College on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m.
