JCCC easily handles Hesston 93-57

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 15-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team handed Hesston its largest loss of the season Wednesday, downing the Larks by 36 points, 93-57 at JCCC Gymnasium. 

The Cavaliers built a 14-point advantage at the break and followed by outscoring the Larks by 22 in the second half to improve to 19-3 overall and remain in a tie for first place with Kansas City Kansas at 5-1.

Five Cavaliers finished in double figures scoring led by freshman forward Brandon Mann with 20, with 12 coming in the second half. He finished 8-of-14 shotting with a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws. Mann also tied for team lead in rebounds with eight.

Sophomore forward Kyler Mann followed 16 points and seven boards and sophomore guard Massi Malterer provided 13 points.

Head coach Rand Chappell also got solid outings from his bench, which accounted for 32 points. Sophomore forward Traymond Willis-Shaw scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half and freshman forward Traeger Rader hit 4-of-6 shots including two 3-pointers and was 2-of-2 at the line to finish with 12 second half points. 

Freshman forward Donald Bangham, Jr., also posted a solid line finishing with nine points, eight boards, four blocks and three steals.

Johnson County will hit the road for its next two conference matchups before returning home to host cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas on February 10. The Cavaliers take on Neohso County on Saturday, February 3, followed by Highland on Wednesday, February 7.
