OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County guard Massi Malterer earned his second Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor for week 14, February 12-18. He was also selected in week eight.
The 6-2 sophomore from Madison, Wis., averaged 28.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals while leading the No. 19 ranked Cavaliers to a pair of conference wins last week. He also shot 69 percent from the field, 75 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent at the free throw line.
Malterer put on a scoring display in the 102-78 win over Allen that had not been seen at JCCC in 35 years. He poured in a career high 37 points, the most in a game since January7 1989. It ranks him tied for 16th-best scoring effort in program history. He scored 22 of 37 points in the first half to help JCCC build a 16-point lead. He capped the week with 19 points in a 67-61 road win at Fort Scott.
Malterer leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with a scoring average of 16.8. He has scored in double figures a team-high 22 times, and has led the team in scoring 13 times, which also leads the team.
