Big second half powers Cavaliers to a 32-point win at Hesston

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 19-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team dominated the second half to post a 78-46 victory at Hesston Saturday afternoon at the Yost Center.  The Cavaliers built an eight-point lead through the first 20 minutes, then outscored the Lark 43-19 in the second half to improve to 24-5 overall and 10-3 in the conference. Hesston fell to 15-11 and 5-8. 

Sophomore guard Massi Malterer led all scorers with 19 points, hitting 8-of-17 shots. He was also a perfect 3-for-3 at the free throw line. 

Sophomore guard Traymond Willis-Shaw followed with 14 points, all coming in the second half. He knocked down 5-of-12 shots, including three 3-pointers. He also grabbed five rebounds and had two steals.

Sophomore forward Kyler Mann posted his team-leading ninth double-double of the season posting 12 points and 13 rebounds. He also had four assist and three steals.

Freshman forward Brandon Mann nearly matched his brother's double-double finishing with nine points and seven boards.

Hesston's Luke McGinnis finished with 16 points. He was the only Lark to score in double digits. 

Johnson County will close out its regular season on Wednesday, February 28 when the host Neosho County (16-12, 6-6). Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.  JCCC needs a victory coupled with a loss by Kansas City Kansas to earn a share of the conference title.
