OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman guard Joey Robinson and freshman forward Tavian Cruse were a one-two punch for the Cavaliers Saturday afternoon in a 73-55 victory over Southwestern Community College at JCCC Gymnasium.
Robinson poured a season-high 24 points to lead his team. He hit 8-of-14 shots including three 3-point baskets and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
Cruse has a monster performance posting a double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds. His 16 rebounds are the most since Savonni Love grabbed 17 against Park three years earlier. Seven of his 16 boards were on the offensive end. Cruse made 7-of-11 shot attempts including a 3-poitner and was 4-of-6 at the charity stripe.
Freshman guard Gavin Harvey also had a solid line with eight points and a team-high six assists.
Other key efforts were posted sophomore guard Steven Samuels (4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and freshman forward Ron Taylor (5 points, 3 rebounds).
The Cavaliers (3-1) return to the hardwood on Tuesday, November 12 when they host Southeast Community College (3-1). Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
