JCCC down Palm Beach State 72-67 to extend win streak to four straight

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 13 Johnson County Community College men's basketball closed it out late over Palm Beach State College at JCCC Gymnasium on Friday night, winning 72-67. The victory was the Cavaliers fourth straight and five overall on the season.

Making free throw were key in this victory as the Cavaliers were 14-for-15 at the line, including a perfect 8-for-8 the final two-minutes, seven seconds, four each from freshman guard Gavin Harvey and sophomore guard Steven Samuels

Harvey was the game's top scorer finishing with 18 points. He was 6-for-18 shooting with two 3-poiners and four free throws. He also dished out a game high six assists. 

Freshman guard Joey Robinson followed with 15 points and freshman forward Tavian Cruse recorded his third double-double on the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Samuels contributed seven points, eight boards and three assists. 

Sophomore forward Brandon Mann returned to the line-up after missing one game with a sore ankle. He finished with five points, two rebounds, an assist, steal and block.

Head coach Rand Chappell also got 15 points from his bench, five points each by sophomore guard Mauryon Turner, sophomore forward Eric Holmes and sophomore forward Trager Rader. Holmes also grabbed four rebounds. 

Marvin Golf lead Palm Beach State in scoring with 16 points.

Johnson County (5-1) returns to the floor Saturday afternoon to host Rock Valley College at 4 p.m. Rock Valley comes in the heels of an 80-79 victory over Kansas City Kansas Friday night.
