OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team heads into Thanksgiving on an eight-game winning streak after routing Kansas Christian College JV 111-42 on Tuesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. The 111 points tie the third most scored by a Cavaliers team coached by Rand Chappell.
Johnson County got off to a fast start building a double-digit lead within the first four minutes. The Falcons managed to pull with nine points at 26-17 with 9:19 left in the first half then the Cavaliers took over the game, outscoring Kansas Christian 26-to-zero to close out the half.
All 11 players for JCCC scored with five topping double figures. The Cavaliers made 59 percent of their shot and hit 48 percent beyond the 3-point line.
Freshman forward Tavian Cruse recorded his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead JCCC in both categories. He made 7-of-10 shots including a 3-pointer and both free throw attempts. He also had four assists and two steals.
Freshman guard Joey Robinson was also 7-of-10 shooting with two 3-pointer for 16 points, along with three rebounds and three assists.
Freshman forward Ron Taylor posted his best game of the season reaching double figures for the first time with 15 points. He was 4-of-8 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point range and a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe.
Freshman guard Gavin Harvey and sophomore guard Steven Samuels each contributed 10 points.
Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Ben Miller (9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals), sophomore guard Jordan Jenkins (9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists), sophomore forward Brandon Mann (8 points, 7 rebounds), freshman forward Tavian Vann (7 points, 6 rebounds), sophomore forward Traeger Rader (6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals) and sophomore guard Mauryon Turner (4 points, five rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals).
Prince McMillon was the only Falcon's player to reach double figures. He finished with 18 points and six rebounds.
Johnson County will break for the holiday then return to the hardwood on Tuesday, December 3 when they host the University of Saint Mary JV. Opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
