Cavaliers rally for 5-1 win over Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer teams scored three goals over a span of five minutes early in the second half, to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit at Allen Community College Wednesday, Oct. 3. The Cavaliers tacked on two more scores later in the half to make the final outcome a 5-1 victory. 

With the win, Johnson County improves to 8-6-0 overall, and to 4-2-0 and third place in conference play. 

Allen got on the board early with a goal just three minutes into the game. JCCC sophomore Luis Alanis evened the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute with his second goal of the season. Freshman Sulyman Janneh provided the assist. 

Three minutes later, Janneh fed freshman Victor Choi to put the Cavaliers up 2-1. It was Choi's second goal of the season and second game winner. 

In the 62 minute, sophomore Sung Min Cho, last season's team MVP, gave Johnson County a 3-1 lead with his team-leading six score of 2018.  Freshman Jeremy Sanchez provided the assist. 

Freshman Joao DePaula, a recent addition to the roster, got his first points of the season with a scoring shot in the 69th minute. Janneh completed the playmaker with his third assists of the contest. His three-assist effort is the first since Edgar Valiente's on Sept. 11, 2016 against Southwestern Illinois. 

Freshman George Quinly closed out the scoring in the 86th minute off a feed from freshman Eduardo Goulart. It was Quinly's second goal of the season. 

Johnson County has just four more contests remaining in the regular season, beginning with a road game at Cowley College on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The return home to host Kansas City Kansas Community College on Friday, Oct. 12.
