
The No. 15-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer season concluded Tuesday night in Chanute, Kan., with a 3-1 setback to No. 5 Neosho County Community College in the Region 6 Championship Match. The Cavaliers end the season 14-4-0 overall, while the Panther improve to 16-1-2 and host the Plains District Final on Saturday.
Neosho County need just 53 seconds into the match to take an early 1-0 advantage off a goal by Callum Niven. The Panthers made 2-nil in the 30th minute when Asaph Silveira found the back of the net.
Five minutes later life was pumped back into the JCCC sideline when sophomore forward Ryan Grinstead scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season, with Kael Drummond and Nick McTighe picking up assists on the play.
It remained 2-1 until the 84th minute when Niven scored his second of the game, insuring the win for the Panthers.
