OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – A second-half score from sophomore midfielder Jordan Gaona propelled the eighth-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Southeast Community College on Wednesday night at the JCCC Soccer Complex, extending their win streak to four straight.
Gaona fired a shot through the defense and into the back of the net off a rebound shot from sophomore forward Monty Almaliky in the 78th minute to break the scoreless tie. It was not only Gaona's first goal of the season, it was the first of his career with the Cavaliers.
Johnson County outshot the Bobcats 22-to-12 and 11-to-4 on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brodie Macoubrie earned the shoutout victory, his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career. He now stands 3-1-0 on the season with a goals against average of 1.50, second-best in the conference.
The Cavaliers (8-2-0/3-1-0) return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 2, to host Central Community College at 6 p.m. JCCC edged the Raiders 2-1 in Columbus, Nebraska on September 2nd.
