Almaliky’s hat trick powers No 13 Cavaliers to win over Marshalltown

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County midfielder Monty Almaliky scored three second half goals to power the No 13 ranked Cavaliers to a 4-1 home victory over Marshalltown on Wednesday afternoon.

The freshman out of Wichita Heights scored in the 52nd minute off an assist from freshman forward Caleb Brueckner. His second goal came on a penalty kick in the 67th minute and he completed the hat trick with unassisted score in the 79th minute.

Almaliky's hat trick is the first since Chace Beckham against Neosho County on September 21, 2016, a span of seven seasons. It's the 44th all-time in team history. 

Brueckner, the week KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, netted the game's first goal just 8:52 after the start. It was the third straight game he scored for the Cavaliers.

Marshalltown tied the game at 1-1 off a goal by Yuki Fujita in the 26th minute. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Seffens improved to 2-0-0 on the season stopping four of the five shots he faced. Earlier this week Seffens was named the KJCCC D-II Goalkeeper of the Week for week two. 

Johnson County (3-1-1) will host Central Community College-Columbus on Friday, September 1 at 4:30 p.m. They open conference play at home against Neosho County Community College on Wednesday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
