No. 8 men’s soccer downs Hesston 3-0

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County men's soccer team improved to 6-2-1 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Hesston Wednesday night at the JCCC Soccer Complex. The Cavaliers netted two goals in the first six minutes to take control of the match early. 

Freshman midfielder Dominic Zuniga (Goddard/Wichita, Kan.) put JCCC up 1-nil connecting on a penalty kick just three minutes, thirty-four seconds into the match. It was Zuniga's first collegiate goal. 

Sophomore forward Jacksyn McIntrye (Blue Springs South/Blue Springs, Mo.) put the Cavaliers up 2-0 with a goal at 5:51 off an assist from sophomore defender Homer Skidmore (Blue Spring South/Blue Springs, Mo.). It was Mcintrye's fifth score of the season and 13th of his career.  The assist for Skidmore was his first point of the 2023 season.

Sophomore midfielder Nate Getahun (SM North/Shawnee, Kan.) closed out the scoring with his first goal of 2023 in the 63red minute. Sophomore midfielder Tre Smith (Park Hill/Parkville, Mo.) provided the assist, his fourth on the season.

Two-time KJCCC D-II Goalkeeper of the Week Brody Macoubrie earned his second shutout saving the three shots he faced. He now stands 4-2-0 on the season and lowered his goals against average to 1.71.

Johnson County hits the road this weekend taking on Pratt Community College on Saturday, September 16. The Beavers enter the contest with a record of 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play. Their one conference win came against conference leader Allen on September 6. 

The Cavaliers trail the all-time series with the Beavers 2-4-1. The last time they met on November 1, 2015 during the region playoffs, the match ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods. Pratt advanced by winning the shootout. Earlier that season, Pratt handed JCCC it fourth worst loss in program history, downing the Cavaliers 8-1.
