OVERLA ND PARK, Kan – Johnson County Community College goalkeeper Ben Hertel has been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II men's soccer Player of the Week following the opening weekend of the 2024 season.
Making his collegiate debut for the number 13 ranked Cavaliers, Hertel recorded a shutout in the season-opening match for JCCC as part of a 4-0 win at Cape Fear Community College. Facing just four shots in the match, Hertel stopped all four shots to record a clean sheet as Johnson County finished the weekend with two wins. It is just the 10th shutout in a season opener in team history. JCCC is 28-17-2 all-time in season opening matches.
Hertel came to JCCC after playing club soccer for Real Colorado Academy/MLS Next where he helped the team to a MLS/Next Championship runner-up finish in 2023.
