OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After helping lead the No. 8-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team to a pair of wins in conference play last week, freshman forward/midfielder Tanner Poirier and freshman goalkeeper Ben Hertel were selected as the KJCCC D-II Men's Soccer Player and Goalkeeper of the Week five.
Poirier netted two goals with an assist in JCCC's two victories. His goal against Pratt proved to be the game winner. Currently this season, Poirier ranks second in the conference and 39th nationally in goals scored with five. He is tied for fifth in the conference with 11 points.
Hertel picked up both victories between the pipes last week, helping the Cavaliers to a 5-1 win at Hesston and a 3-1 win at home against Pratt. Hertel stopped nine of the 11 shots he faced last week to improve to 5-1-0 on the season. Overall, Hertell has turned away 31 of 39 shots on goal a conference leading goals against average of 1.33. Nationally, his five wins tie for eighth and his 1.33 GAA ranks 34th. This was Hertel's second honor of the year. He was also selected for the honor after the first week of the season.
