Johnson county wins 6-0 at Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's soccer team kept its conference championship aspirations alive with a 6-0 road shutout over Allen Community College, Wednesday, Oct. 3. With the win, the Lady Cavaliers improved to 5-1-1 and in second place behind 7-0-0 Butler Community College, their next opponent. Johnson County is 6-6-1 overall on the season. 

Six different players notched scores, the first coming off the foot of sophomore Kara Pascarella in the 14th minute.  Just before halftime, Pascarella fed freshman Liz Palmer to put Johnson County 2-nil. 

The Lady Cavaliers added four more goals in the second half, three within a three-minute span. Sophomore Georgia Vernardakis, an All-America selection last year, scored off a free kick. It was her third goal of the season. 

Thirty-three seconds later Pascarella registered her second assist with a feed to sophomore Manuela Gonzalez.  Two-minutes, seven-seconds later Gonzalez picked up an assist on freshman Aina Blanch-Lopez's second score of the season. 

Freshman Kayla Flores completed the scoring at 87:50 to make it a 6-0 victory. Sophomore Cortlyn Ash picked up her fifth assists of the campaign, putting in a three-way tie for the team lead. 

Sophomore Vanessa Silva and freshman Avery Smith combined to get the shutout. Silva played the first 72 minutes, and Smith closed out the final 18. Silva saved two shots, and Smith picked one save. 

Johnson County will host conference leading Butler on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., then travels to Arkansas City, Kan., on Tuesday, Oct. 9 to take on Cowley College.
