NJCAA All-Americans (16)

Bob Downs
1974 NJCAA 1st-Team • Pitcher

Bob Downs, along with teammate Mark Balderston, became the first two players to earn All-American in JCCC baseball history following the 1974 season.  He was the first player to earn first-team honors, and the first JCCC pitcher to earn All-America accolades.  Downs posted a perfect season of 11-0, and finished with an ERA of 1.26 over 77 2/3 innings.  His 11 season wins and 15 career wins were records until the 2009 season.  Downs took his arm to Northwest Missouri State  where he earned MIAA second-team honors. He earned induction to the JCCC Hall of Fame in February, 2006.

Mark Balderston
1974 NJCAA Honorable Mention • 2B

Mark Balderston, along with teammate Bob Downs, became the first two players to earn All-American in JCCC baseball history.  Balderston led the team with a .447 average, 55 hits and 41 runs scored. All three were new school records.  His .447 average still ranks among the top 10 season averages in Johnson County baseball history, raking eighth.  Balderston continued his career at Phillips University.  Balderston was inducted into the JCCC Hall of Fame in 2002.  He is the first male athlete to earn that honor at JCCC.

Antionio Triplett
1980 NJCAA Honorable Mention • OF

Antonio Triplett was part of an extremely talented team that finished 9th in the NJCAA poll, won the conference title and were the Eastern Division and Region VI champions.  Surprisingly, Triplett wasn’t the top offensive star of the team, yet his numbers were very impressive.  He .365, with 61, 49 runs and 41 RBI.  What set him apart was, 23 of his 61 hits went for extra bases, including 11 triples, which is still a record today.  Triplett also was named as a CBCA All-American.  As a freshman, Triplett became just the 11th player in team history to hit over .400 for a season, finishing with an average of .419 (49-for-117).  He left JCCC owning six career records, and two season records.  Williams went on to Kansas State University and then later signed with the Texas Rangers organization.

Cordell Williams
1984 NJCAA Honorable Mention • OF

Cordell Williams became the first JCCC outfielder to be named All-American, earning honorable mention accolades following the 1984 season.  Williams helped JCCC capture the conference title and win the Eastern Division and Region VI championships.  He hit .355 and belted 14 home runs,  a school record at the time. That season, Williams also was selected as a CBCA All-American. Williams continued his collegiate career at Phillips University.

Kit Pellow
1994 NJCAA 2nd-Team • OF

Kit Pellow became the second JCCC outfielder to be named All-American, earning second-team honors.  In 1994, Pellow definitely put up number worthy of All-America honors.  He hit .479, with 70 hits and 57 RBI.  Pellow also ripped 13 doubles and school record 20 home runs.  His .479 average led the country, and his 20 homers were second.  Pellow finished his career ranked in the top-10 in eight career offensive categories at JCCC, including a school record 29 home runs.  He went on to a standout career at the University of Arkansas.  Drafted by the Kansas City Royals, Pellow played worked his way up through the organization, getting call up to the Major League’s in 2002.  Following the season, Pellow signed as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies.  A year later, he was the Rockies starter on opening day in the outfield.

Brett Kinning
2004 NJCAA 3rd-Team • DH/2B

Brett Kinning became the sixth player in JCCC history to be selected NJCAA All-American, earning third-team accolades in 2004.  Kinning also was selected to the NJCAA All-District first-team, East Jayhawk Conference first-team and was the NJCAA Central District Rawlings big Stick Award winner, the first in JCCC history.  A two-time team MVP, Kinning led the Cavaliers and ranked 17th nationally with a batting average of .441.  He collected a team high 83 hits, including 21 doubles, two triples and seven home runs.  He also led the team in RBI with 59, which also ranked tied for 19th nationally.  His 83 hits and 21 doubles set new season records at JCCC, and his 59 RBI are the fourth-highest at JCCC.  Earlier in the season, Kinning put together one of the longest hitting streaks in team history, going 17 straight games with at least one hit.  For his career, Kinning is one of only four players in team history to drive in 100 runners.

Doug Otto
2008 NJCAA 1st-Team • SS

Doug Otto, a walk-on to the program as a freshman,  became just the second player in JCCC history to be selected NJCAA First-Team All-American.    Otto also was selected to the NJCAA All-Region first-team and East Jayhawk Conference first-team.  He also was voted conference MVP was selected as a 2008 Rawlings Gold Glove winner, both honors the first in JCCC history.  Otto posted a .424 batting average (78-for-184) with 20 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 65 runs scored, 49 RBI and 30 stolen bases. He led the team in average, doubles, triples, home runs and runs scored. He also was second in RBI and stolen bases. His 78 hits are the third best season in team history, and he ranks second with 20 doubles. In all, Otto etched his name in 12 season and career categories at JCCC. In the World Series, Otto hit a team-best .667, going 4-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI, five runs and three walks. He also was 3-for-3 in stolen bases. He was named All-Tournament.

Brandon Droge
2008 NJCAA Honorable Mention • Pitcher

Brandon Droge became just the second pitcher in team history to earn NJCAA All-American.  He is the first JCCC player to earn this honor in his freshman campaign.  Droge was selected to the 2008 honorable mention team.  Droge was one of the team’s top aces on the mound in the 2008. He finished 8-2 overall with a team-best 1.28 earned run average. He pitched a school record 98 innings, allowing just 18 earned runs, while striking out 74 batters. Droge’s eight wins tie for 11th on JCCC’s season chart. He ranks second in season games started at 14, and his seven complete games tie for ninth at JCCC. His 74 strikeouts also tie for ninth in a season. 

John Lenherr
2009 NJCAA 3rd-Team • OF

John Lenherr became the fourth outfielder in team history, and ninth player overall, to be selected to the NJCAA All-America Team. In 2009, Lenherr led JCCC with a .439 average while tying the school record for season hits with 83.  He also had 18 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 45 RBI.  Those numbers also earned Lenherr the Rawlings Big Stick award for the Central District.  Lenherr also left his mark on the all-time career charts at JCCC.  He is the all-time career hits leader with 165.  His .349 average tied the 11th best season at JCCC, and his 65 runs tied for fourth.  Lenherr also ranks tied for second in career doubles with 33, second in career runs with 120, six in career average at .430 and tied for eighth in carer RBI with 89.  Lenherr also garnered first-team All-East Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI honors. 

David Morgan
2010 NJCAA Honorable Mention • OF

Davis Morgan earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2010 after posting one of the best seasons in JCCC history.  Morgan hit .442 (92-for-208) with 17 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs and 92 RBI. His season totals for at bats, hits, home runs and RBI set new team records. He also set the single season doubles record as a freshman with 24. For his career, Morgan set new standards in doubles with 41 and RBI with 150. He also ranks second in career home runs with 29, second in career hits with 157 and fourth in runs scored with 113. Morgan was also earned first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk East Conference and first-team All-Region VI honors. He also became just the second player in team history to be named the most valuable player of the East Jayhawk Conference.

Aaron Schnurbusch
2014 NJCAA 3rd-Team • OF/P

Aaron Schnurbusch, one of the best two-way players to wear a Cavaliers uniform, was selected as a third-team Division I All-American by the NJCAA in 2014. He becomes the program’s 11 All-American and the third to be honored as a pitcher. He was also selected to the NJCAA National Baseball Team. The 26-member team represented the United States in the 80th National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series in Wichita, Kan., Aug. 1-9.  Schnurbusch demonstrated over his career he could win a game with arm or his bat. His performance this year helped Johnson County produce a record 50 wins, win both the conference and region titles, and reach the JUCO World Series for just the second time in team history. In 2014, he was nearly unstoppable on the hill. He finished the season 12-2 in 16 starts, with 102 strikeouts and a 2.42 ERA. His 12 wins tied for second in the country, and he ranked tied for eighth nationally in strikeouts. Schnurbusch also left his mark on the Johnson County record books. He set new season standards for wins (12), innings pitched (107.2) and games started (16). He also ranked second in the strikeouts (102) and tied for third in games completed (9). On the career chart, Schnurbusch set the all-time strikeout mark with 162. He also ranked fifth in wins (16), second in innings pitched (167.1), tied for second in games started (28), and  third in games completed (13).At the plate, Schnurbusch hit at a .365 clip (66-for-181) with 18 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 55 runs scored and 63 RBI.   On the national scene, his 63 RBI tied for 15th.

Anthony Miller
2015 NJCAA 2nd-Team • 1B

Anthony Miller, one of the top power hitters in Johnson County Community College history, was selected as a second-team Division I Baseball All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association. He becomes the program’s 12th All-American, and eighth under head coach Kent Shelley. Miller had an amazing season and career at JCCC. During the season, Miller was selected as the Kansas Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week six times, and earned the NJCAA National Player of the Week twice. He also was a first-team All-East Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI selection. Miller hit at team-best .443 (86-for-1994) with 15 doubles, five triples a school record 26 home runs and 79 RBI. He also scored 73 times to set a new season mark. His 86 hits and 79 RBI ranked second on JCCC’s season charts. Nationally, he ranked 12th in batting average, ninth in RBI and second in home runs. Miller’s name is etched all through the Cavaliers all-time leaders list. He appears 14 times in eight season statistical categories, and in nine different career categories, including school record for home runs (39) and runs scored (132). He also ranked tied for fifth in career doubles (33), tied for 10th in triples (9) second in RBI (142) and fourth in walks (77). In June 2015 MLB Draft, Miller was selected with the 544th overall pick (18th round) by the Cleveland Indians. His selection ranks as the ninth highest in JCCC baseball history. Miller eventually signed  a professional contract and reported to the Indians Rookie League on June 20th. A day later, he ripped a single to notch his first professional hit.

Brendan Stanek
2017 NJCAA 3rd-Team • P

Brendan Stanek put up some big numbers and posted one of the finest seasons for a pitcher in Johnson County history during his sophomore season. He was named to the NJCAA Division I All-America third-team. He also was selected to the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and Region VI first-teams. Stanek finished the 2017 season with a perfect 8-0 record with an ERA of 1.48 and 72 strikeouts. He started 13 games, completing five with three shutouts, which ranked third in the NJCAA. His 1.48 ERA led the conference and was the seventh-best in the country. During the season, Stanek was named the Jayhawk Conference Pitcher of the Week four times, most by any player in the conference. He pitched two one-hitters and a two-hitter during the campaign. Stanek’s production in 2017 was up significantly from his freshman season where he was 2-1 with an ERA of 8.86 over 22.1 innings logged.

Malik Williams
2018 NJCAA 3rd-Team • 1B

Malik Williams became the 14 player to be names NJCAA All-American, earning third team honors following the 2018 season. Williams hit .397 (89-for-224) with 15 doubles, two triples, a team-high 17 home runs and team high 78 RBI. Hr ranked tied for third in the conference and 20th in the NJCAA in home runs and sixth and 14th respectively in hits. He also set a season record with 31 multiple-hit games and had 21 multi-RBI games, third most at JCCC. His 89 hits and 78 RBI ranked third on JCCC’s season charts. He also ranked eighth in home runs and had a 16-game hitting streak that tied the fifth longest at JCCC.  Williams also earned first-team All-East Jayhawk Conference and first-team All-Region VI. 

Anthony Amicangelo
2019 NJCAA 1st-Team • OF

Sophomore outfielder Anthony Amicangelo was named first-team All-American by the National Athletic Association (NJCAA) earlier this week. He is the 15th player in team history be selected All-American, and just the fourth to earn first-team honors.  Earlier this year he was selected first-team All-Region VI, first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and was voted his team’s MVP.  Amicangelo batted.492 (91-for-185) with 23 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 62 runs scored and 68 RBIs. His .492 average led the conference and ranked second in the NJCAA. It also is the second-best recorded in JCCC history. Amicangelo led the team in hits, doubles, RBIs, multiple-hit games (29) and multiple-RBI games (21). His 91 hits and 29 multi-hit games are third most in team history. Amicangelo ranked second in the conference in hits, led the conference in doubles, tied for fifth in triples, and tied for third in RBIs. He opened the season with a 17-game hitting streak which is the sixth longest. He followed that with a record-tying 24-game streak.

Brady Slavens
2020 JUCO Baseball Blog 1st-Team/National Player of the Year • Infielder

Brady Slavens was on pace for a historic season in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic stopped the season after just 23 games. Slavens was hitting .507 (38-for-75) and led the NJCAA with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs. He also produced nine doubles, two triples, scored 25 runs, 13 multiple-hit games and 12 multiple-RBI games. Twenty-five of his 38 hits (66%) went for extra bases and he had more homers than singles (13). Slavens le the conference in hits, home runs and RBIs and ranked third in doubles. He was chosen the KJCCC Player of the Week in three consectuive weeks, earning the honor in weeks 3, 4 and 5. Slavens continued his career at the University of Arkansas.

Quinton Hall
2020 JUCO Baseball Blog 1st-Team  • Outfielder

In the 2020 season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Quinton Hall was slected first-team All-American by JUCO Baseball Blog.  He started 21 games and batted .462 (30-for-65) with seven doubles, two triples, six home runs, 32 runs scored and 23 driven in. He also drew 17 walks and stole five bases. Hall collected 10 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games. He ranked ninth in the conference in batting average, tied for sixth in hits, tied for second in runs, tied for ninth in doubles and tied for fourth in home runs. Nationally, he tied for seventh in runs and 23rd in home runs. Hall got off to a really hot start to his collegiate career in his first week, hitting .714 (10-for-14) with two doubles, two triples, a home run, eight runs scored and eight RBI, which earned hiim the conference player of the week honor. 

Jay Long
2020 JUCO Baseball Blog Honorable Mention • Pitcher

In the 2020 season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, left-handed pitcher Jay Long earned honorable mention All-American by JUCO Baseball Blog. Long made seven appearances on the hill, all in relief. He was 1-0 with an earned run average of 1.31, with 34 strikeouts in 20.2 innings of work. He allowed just five runs, three earned, with six walks. His five runs allowed tie for the fourth fewest in a season at JCCC, and his three earned runs tie for eighth in a season.

Luc Fladda
2023 NJCAA 2nd-Team • Pitcher

In the 2023 season, left-handed pitcher Luc Fladda was the ace of a pitching staff that helped lead the Cavaliers to a school record mark of 56-10 while capturing conference and district titles capped by an eighth place finish at the NJCAA JUCO World Series. Fladda appeared in 18 games, 17 as a starter. He had a perfect record of 12-0 with 107 strikeouts in 102.0 innings, six complete games and an earned run average of 2.74. Fladda led the conference in innings pitched, ranked second in ERA, victories, strikeouts, and complete games. Nationally he ranked second in innings pitched, tied for third in victories and tied for 13th in strikeouts. His 12 victories tie for the second most in a season in team history and tied the record for fewest losses. Fladda also ranks second on the season chart for innings pitched, tied for third in strikeouts and set a team record for most games started. In his first start Fladda hurled six innings of no-hit ball with 11 strikeouts to earn a 3-0 win over nationally ranked Crowder (2-11-23) … That performance earned him KJCCC East Pitcher of the Week for week two. Three months later, he earned a nine inning complete-game 11-2 victory over Cowley in the championship game, securing JCCC’s third trip to the NJCAA World Series.
