OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team upped their winning streak to five straight games with a 86-56 victory over Bethany College JV on Saturday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium.
The Cavaliers (5-1) raced to a 20-point halftime lead, 41-21, and tacked on 10 more points in the second half to win going away.
Freshman forward Savonni Love had his best game as a college player, recording his first double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, both season highs. Love hit 7-of-9 shots, including a 3-pointer, and was 2-of-2 at the line. He also had three assists, a block and a steal.
Sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead, the team's top scorer and rebounds so far this season, also contributed 17 points, hitting 8-of-11 shots, and grabbed 10 boards. This is his fourth double-double of the season.
Freshman guard Sylvester Union also established a new season high in points, finishing with 10. He was 4-of-5 from the field with two 3- pointers. He also had four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Starting guards Jaycson Bereal and Desi Williams each finished with eight points in the win.
Johnson County returns to action Wednesday, February 17, when they host Link Year Prep at 6 p.m.
