HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Johnson County Community College women's soccer team (19-0-3) defeated Anne Arundel Community College 2-0 Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama. This is JCCC's second straight appearance in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament semifinals. They went ton to finish runner-up last year.
The No. 2 seed Lady Cavaliers dominated the match outshooting No. 11 seed Anne Arundel 15-to-1 and 8-zero in shots on goal to win Group B and advance to Thursday's national tournament semifinals. JCCC opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over No. 7 seed Rock Valley College.
JCCC freshman forward Lily Marshall picked up her second game-winning goal of tournament when she one timed a cross from freshman midfielder Tatum Bresette past Riverhawks goalkeeper Pele Saunders in the 40th minute.
The Lady Cavaliers doubled its lead in the 53rd minute when sophomore forward Karsen Koehler set a cross through the box to find sophomore forward Maya Wallace for the score. It was Koehler's 15th assist on the season, moving her into a tie for fourth in NJCAA D-II women's soccer. Wallace's goal was her team-leading 18th on the year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Stoskopf earned her 10th shutout of the shutout of the season and lowered her season goals against average to 0.09, best in the country.
Johnson County will face No. 3 seed Heartland Community College on Thursday, November 21 at 1:30 pm., EST, with the winner advancing to the national title match on Saturday, November 23. The semifinal pits No. 1 seed Northwest Mississippi Community College against No. 5 seed Holmes Community College.
